YSLME Launches Digital Photographic Online Competition and Painting Competition to Celebrate World Ocean Day 2008
The UNDP/GEP Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem Project is inviting stakeholders in China and Korea to participate in the competitions.
The UNDP/GEF Yellow Sea Project (YSLME Project) aims to protect the marine life, coasts and sea of the Yellow Sea by promoting its conservation and sustainable use development. This year, the YSLME Project takes part in the annual global celebration of the World Ocean Day, held every 8th of June, through a digital photo competition.
The competition is open to amateur photographers who are residents of China and Korea. Interested participants may submit only one photo in JPG format, between 1-5 MB in size, with no enhancement or retouching, and with a description containing where and when the photo was taken. The photo should be the participant's original work.
The photo should also coincide with the YSLME Project's World Ocean Day theme: “You can make a difference for the Yellow Sea.” Any aspects of the Yellow Sea coast, ocean, coastal people or wildlife are eligible. Underwater photos are also acceptable.
Simultaneously, YSLME is also holding a painting competition for young students. Only schools within the Yellow Sea Region can apply. These are those in China within the Provinces of Jiangsu, Shangdong, Liaoning and Korea within the Provinces of Gyeonggi-do, Chungchongnam-do, Jeollabuk-do, and Jeollanam-do. Each school is invited to submit 9 drawings, 3 per category. The school can nominate a class and select the best drawings to represent the school.
Interested individuals and schools should submit their entry on or before 31 May 2008.
