On 2nd April 2007 a magnitude 8.1 earthquake hit the western Solomon Islands followed by a tsunami wave. Between 25 May and 12 June 2007, a post-tsunami assessment of reef condition, village priorities and issues related to the marine environment was funded and carried out by the WorldFish Center-Solomon Islands in 17 Western Province villages.
