Dear members of the Constructed Wetlands Community of Practice,
You may find this hard to believe but some four months ago at the 4th
Biennial GEF International Waters Conference you all attended the
constructed wetlands focused learning discussion. A principle
recommendation of that event was for IW:LEARN to create a community
of practice to focus on constructed wetlands. I apologize for the
lengthy delay in moving this process forward but I am happy to
announce that we have a very rudimentary start, which now has a home at:
http://www.iwlearn.net/constructedwetlands
The idea of this CoP, at least initially, is to create a home for
your relevant background materials, links, announcement and contact
information. In addition, I have also created an email distribution
list, wetlands@iwlearn.net to facilitate discussions and
announcements with a single address. We are in the process of
developing more sophisticated platforms to host this community, and
others like it...but for the moment, we hope these basic tools will
offer a start.
For now we encourage you to take some time out to help enhance this CoP.
Some ideas include:
1. Please introduce yourself via the mailing list. All of you already
did in Cape Town, but perhaps you'd like to provide a photo and some
basic biographical information to post on the site. Please also note
that discussion on this forum has an open archive.
2. Please recommend any other people who should be added to this
list, both the mailing list and the website.
3. Please send any more presentations, links, background materials or
announcements to be posted.
4. Start a discussion. Our experience has been that similar mailing
lists only work well for two purposes. The first would be for simple
announcements to the group. The second, would be to have short, very
targeted discussions with a moderator facilitating the discussion. In
such cases, Chris Severin has graciously offered to help facilitate
this CoP, so I invite him to propose any immediate topics.
In the future, I hope we will be able to offer you a more enhanced
CoP platform with more effective networking tools...those tools
include Blogs, Wiki's and other user-driven and more real-time
communication technologies.
Otherwise...I hope this interim step meets your initial needs.
Best wishes,
Mish
