- Enhancing Transboundary Cooperation in Water Management in the Prespa Lakes Basin
- As it is currently considered unlikely, at least in the short to medium-term, that trilateral inter-State agreement might be reached on a more formal legal and institutional basis for trilateral cooperation for the Prespa Basin and, as it is envisaged that the proposed Prespa Water Management Working Group (PWMWG) would operate under the aegis of and support the work of the existing Prespa Park Coordination Committee (PPCC), it is necessary briefly to examine the legal mandate of the PPCC, especially in respect of technical cooperation.
- Prespa Lake Basin Inception Report
- The Prespa region, combining the two Prespa Lakes (Mikri and Macro) and their catchment basin, is shared by Albania, Greece and the FYR of FYR of Macedonia. The international ecological significance of the area, and especially the need for sustainable water management for the benefit of both nature and the inhabitants, led to the establishment of the Prespa Park – the first transboundary protected area in the Balkans – with a Joint Declaration of the Prime Ministers of the three littoral countries, in February 2000. Following the Declaration, an interim joint body, the Prespa Park Coordination Committee (PPCC), was established by the three Governments, for the coordination of planning and implementing activities in the region.

- Integrated Ecosystem Management in the Prespa Lakes Basin
- Integrated Ecosystem Management in the Prespa Lakes Basin of Albania, FYR of Macedonia and Greece” has began in 2007, after several years of preparation, in a regional environment described as differences in capacity, commitment and national policy across borders, which are strong constraints, in addition to questions of national sovereignty and policies, barriers to free trade, unsustainable productive activities, political instability etc. However, the entire region hosts unique habitats and species, important from both a European and global conservation perspective, which make the ecosystem of Prespa Lakes being considered as one of the Europe’s major transboundary “ecological bricks
