Fixed-Term Researcher (PWRI, Japan)

The successful candidate will work at the International Center for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) of the Public Works Research Institute (PWRI) in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan and will also be recommended as coordinate associate professor to the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. (Application Deadline: 22 February 2010).

Duties and Responsibilities

The position requires conducting research in technology and strategy for river management and worldwide mitigation of water-related disaster damage. Also, the researcher will be required to teach trainees mainly from developing countries and supervise their research activities.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in river-related issues or water-related disasters at the time of application.
  • Applicants must have sufficient ability and achievement to publish peer-reviewed research papers in river-related issues or water-related disasters.
  • Applicants must have a good command of English for paper writing, communication and lectures.
  • It is desirable that applicants have teaching experience at the university level.

Application Procedure

The application deadline is on 22 February 2010.

All documents must be A4 size and written in English or Japanese unless otherwise specified. No specific format is set to follow. Documents must include:
1)     Resume (curriculum vitae)
2)     List of the past achievements
3)     Certificate of the doctoral degree
4)     Certified academic transcript
5)     List of the published papers
6)     Copies of the main research papers (up to five)
7)     Outline of your research history (including teaching experience if any) and research plans at ICHARM (300 to 500 words in total. This must be written in English. No Japanese accepted.)
8)     Essay on your possible contribution to ICHARM
