Wetlands Restoration Design Consultant (MCA-Lesotho)

The consultant will produce engineering drawings, construction plans and specifications, recommendations for re-vegetating disturbed areas of the wetlands, and a detailed narrative report providing the background basis for the recommendations (e.g., literature review and project examples) and details of the data and supporting analyses for the recommended designs. The designs should build local capacity, provide job opportunities for local communities, and effectively restore wetlands. In addition they should be environmentally friendly and be compliant with the legal environmental requirements both locally and internationally (Application Deadline: 17 June 2009).

Roles and Responsibilities

The Consultant will be responsible for overall management, planning and oversight of the project and quality assurance of deliverables. The consultant should be able to demonstrate a breadth of relevant technical experience, ability to lead activities, skills to engage in constructive dialogue with governmental and non-governmental organization, and effective communication skills.

Qualifications

He/she should have at least 10 years of professional experience, specifically in the areas of peatland restoration, mitigating soil erosion in mountainous terrain, and experience in wetland hydrology and restoration. The consultant should possess relevant professional engineering certification, certified to produce design specifications; the preferred discipline is Agricultural and biological Engineering, or Land and Water Resources Engineering, demonstrated experience from Civil or Environmental Engineering is also appropriate. Previous work experience in Lesotho or SADC will be an added advantage.

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing the consultant’s professional qualifications, areas of expertise, and experience in the implementation of similar;
  • An approach and methodology (3-page limit) for the implementation of the contract, describing the consultant’s understanding of the Term of Reference and the objectives of the assignment, including a proposed approach to the implementation of the services, an estimated work plan and the expected outputs; and
  • Proof of all professional qualifications and work experience indicated in the CV. This shall include: copies of all the diplomas and certificates; letters from the previous clients certifying the work experience or copy of contracts or any other written document that can prove, beyond any doubt, that the consultant has the work experience indicated in the CV.
