SUMMARY:Sustainability of Large Marine Ecosystems (LME)\: Bridging the Governance and Socio-economics Gap
DESCRIPTION:The aims to advance the Governance and Socio-economic Modu
 les of LMEs by enhancing the capacity of scientists\, policy makers an
 d managers from developing countries and countries in transition invol
 ved in Large Marine Ecosystem (LME) initiatives. Specifically\, the wo
 rkshop will discuss alternative governance structures and processes\, 
 self-financing strategies\, frameworks and indicators to measure progr
 ess for adaptive management under TDA/SAP regimes and strengthen the l
 inkages between the five LME modules. Twenty two participants from nin
 e LMEs will share their experiences and learn new tools and techniques
  at this initial workshop. The major output of the workshop will be a 
 handbook on the Governance and Socioeconomics of LMEs. This product wi
 ll be available and applicable to all LMEs and perhaps the other IW pr
 ojects which apply the TDA/SAP process.  The workshop is being led by 
 the University of Rhode Island's Coastal Resources Center\, in collabo
 ration with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\, w
 ith support from GEF IW\:LEARN.
