Steering Committee Meeting of the Arab Network for Water Use Ethics (ANWE)

Environmental ethics is the part of environmental philosophy which considers the ethical relationship between human beings and the natural environment. It exerts influence on a large range of disciplines including law, sociology, theology, economics, ecology and geography. Within the frame work of the 7th Phase of UNESCO-IHP activities in the Arab region, the UNESCO Cairo Office supported the establishment of the Arab Network for Water Use Ethics (ANWE) in 2006 with a major goal to actualize water uses ethics and to contribute to the alleviation of the Arab water crisis. ANWE's mission includes dissemination of knowledge, exchange of experiences, improvement of behavior and social conduct and raising awareness on water ethics. A plan of action for developing an ethical framework for IWRM implementation in the Arab region is also proposed. This meeting will identify the regional priorities and action plan for water ethics, ecological/ecosystem ethics, and public awareness/capacity building.
