Policy Officer (CIWEM)

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is an independent professional body and a registered charity, advancing the science and practice of water and environmental management for a clean, green and sustainable world. This is a varied and challenging post which develops and promotes environmental policy work at CIWEM. The post requires enthusiasm, excellent administration and organisational skills, good teamwork, a good understanding of environmental issues and the ability to self motivate. CIWEM can offer a very friendly working environment and a pleasant central London location (Application Deadline: 5 June 2009).

The prime purpose of this post is to develop and promote CIWEM’s environmental policy programmes, dissemination of information and production of key policy outputs in a broad range of issues to support the Institution’s policy development objectives and campaigns.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the work of the Director of Policy, other Policy Officer(s) and the Press and Communications function.
  • Assist in the development and promotion of environmental policy outputs (policy statements, reports, web content etc).
  • Support CIWEM’s portfolio of environment sector conferences by researching themes and issues.
  • Develop networks in support of policy outputs.
  • Manage web site updates on policy issues and enrich policy content on the CIWEM website.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with members of Committees, Panels and Groups, and with external bodies and organisations.

Other Tasks and Duties

  • Attend meetings of Panels and other forums as required.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the environment sector.
  • Maintain positive links with other relevant bodies and organisations.
  • Undertake projects as directed by the Director of Policy.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the scope of the post.
