Large Marine Ecosystem monitoring, assessment, and management across the global North-South divide

Since the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, overfishing, loss of coastal habitats, coastal pollution, and loss of biodiversity continue to erode the sustainability of $10.6 trillion in goods and services generated by coastal ecosystems around the globe. In recognition of the problem, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) has been approached by developing countries for assistance in planning and implementing projects for assessing and managing resources and environments of Large Marine Ecosystems (LMEs) in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and eastern Europe.
