Recent years have witnessed some progress in social gender equality. However, women are still in a weak position, as there still exists gender binary opposition stereotypes and gender mainstreaming still needs advocacy and practice. The Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection (hereinafter referred to as FECO) has recognized gender discrimination and inequality and therefore taken gender mainstreaming as an important part of its mission, focusing on improving the rights and interests of women and encouraging balanced gender participation and equality in environmental protection.
