1st International Ballast Water Treatment Standards Workshop
The introduction of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens to new environments, including via ships ballast water, has been identified as one of the four greatest threats to the worlds oceans. It is estimated that a foreign marine species is introduced to a new environment somewhere in the world every nine weeks. Human health, ecological and economic impacts can be severe.
