Ballast Water News Issue 14: July - September 2003

The 49th session of MEPC, held from 14 to 18 July 2003, marked an important moment of reference for the programme and the decisions taken by IMO member States during the meeting established clear directions for the continuation of GloBallast. After extensive discussions the various delegations involved in the drafting of the new Convention, harmonized their views on most of the provisions and decided in favour of a Diplomatic Conference for the adoption of the Convention, to be held from 9 to 13 February 2004.
