University of The Philippines, Marine Science Institute

The University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UPMSI) was originally established as the Marine Sciences Center (MSC) with the approval of its charter by the Board of Regents on 28 March 1974. MSC served as the University’s coordinating base for marine research. In June of the same year, the first Advisory Executive Council of the Center was formed with the appointment of Dr. Edgardo D. Gomez as acting Director. The Center commenced its operations in February 1975 at the building of the U.P. Natural Sciences Research Institute. With its transformation into an institute on 23 April 1985, UPMSI began offering graduate programs. It is now tasked to pursue research, teaching, and extension work in marine biology, marine chemistry, physical oceanography, marine geology, and related disciplines.

Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is the government agency responsible for the development, improvement, management and conservation of the country's fisheries and aquatic resources. It was reconstituted as a line bureau by virtue of Republic Act No. 8550 (Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998). The bureau is under the Department of Agriculture.

National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI)

In 1991, an official WWF Philippine Programme was established in Manila to supervise WWF's numerous field activities and to work more closely with local partners. This turned into an associate programme known locally as Kabang Kalikasan ng Pilipinas (Fund for Nature of the Philippines). In 1997 it became a full member of the WWF Network.

FishBase Information and Research Group (FIN)

The FishBase Information and Research Group, Inc. (FIN) is an nongovernmental organization established in the Philippines to support the availability of comprehensive information systems with key data on all aquatic organisms of the world, easily accessible and free of charge to the public. FIN was created and is supported by the FishBase Consortium, a group of nine international institutes and organizations. The research and resources of FIN and FishBase provide important data to research scientists, fisheries managers, zoologists and others in scientific and policy sectors.
