Mainstreaming Climate Change Guidance

Welcome to GEF IW:LEARN guidance for projects on climate change and variability, designed to assist GEF IW projects during their implementation.

In particular, these guides are meant to help explain the need for mainstreaming climate concerns and where to find the available wealth of information. However, the guides are not intended to tell projects exactly what to do – this is left to nation/regional experts whom GEF IW projects should be consulting. The guides do indicate the type of discussion/research that should be undertaken at the inception, implementation and the closure of a GEF IW project. The guides also provide examples from the GEF IW Portfolio which bring accessible and practical examples to supplement the extensive list of approaches given in the reference sections.

The guides are split into a Marine (LME and open ocean) section and a Freshwater (rivers, lakes, groundwaters and wetlands) section, with both following a similar form and use of similar material supplemented with ecosystem-type specific knowledge.

As the subject area is always expanding and the examples of good practices are evolving and GEF IW:LEARN welcomes feedback and suggestions on successful (and not successful) approaches.
