Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) regional training workshop for the East Asian Seas

MSP is increasingly recognized as an effective approach for managing growing pressures on marine and maritime areas while safeguarding ocean ecosystems.

Overview

The East Asian Seas house some of the planet’s most biodiverse and economically vital marine ecosystems. However, as populations grow and competition for ocean space intensifies, the need for organized management has become critical.

Following successful training sessions in Latin America and Africa, this workshop marks the third event in a global series designed to advance Marine Spatial Planning (MSP). This initiative aligns with the recently adopted Action Framework (2025–2030) to support ecosystem-based management and a sustainable blue economy in the region.

Why This Workshop?

his training aims to:

  • Address Escalating Competition: Manage the growing demand for ocean space among various sectors.

  • Strengthen Policy: Implement recommended actions from the 2021 regional policy review.

  • Support Global Goals: Align regional efforts with the UN Ocean Decade Action 21 and national ocean commitments.
