Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD)

The Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD) was established with the mission of developing a regional regime for environmental cooperation and integration that contributes to improving the quality of life of the populations of its Member States. Its actions have responded to the Environmental Plans of the Central American Region (PARCA); The first was adopted in 1999 for the period 2000-2004, and was aimed at operationalizing the Central American Alliance for Sustainable Development (ALIDES) and beginning the consolidation of CCAD as a whole. PARCA II covered the period 2005-2009 and proposed an approach focused on the development of instruments for environmental management and the establishment of regional cross-sector alliances. PARCA III 2010-2014, focused on environmental governance. Since its validity ended, the Council of Ministers agreed to formulate a Regional Environmental Strategy valid for 2015-2020.
