Conduct basic and applied research of renewable natural resources and the environment in the coastal and marine ecosystems and ocean national interest in order to provide the scientific knowledge necessary for policy formulation, decision-making and the development of plans and projects leading to the development of these, aimed at sustainable management of resources, to the recovery of the coastal and marine environment and improving the quality of life of Colombians, by using rational scientific capacity of the Institute and its articulation with other public and private entities.
