Remote Sensing Specialist

The National Specialist (Uruguay) will contribute to the mapping of existing hydraulic infrastructure on the Uruguayan side of the Merín Lagoon Basin through the analysis and processing of satellite imagery and remote sensing tools. The assignment will develop a georeferenced inventory of canals and flood protection structures, including their location and main physical characteristics.

About the Project
The Merín Lagoon Project promotes binational cooperation between Brazil and Uruguay for the integrated and sustainable management of water resources in the Merín Lagoon Basin and Coastal Lagoons. Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by Brazil’s Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) and Uruguay’s Ministry of Environment (MA/Dinagua), with the technical support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the project aims to strengthen institutional and technical capacities, promote sustainable water use, support ecosystem conservation and climate change adaptation, and advance coordinated action through the development of a Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA), a Strategic Action Programme (SAP), and pilot initiatives across the basin.
